The leadership of the Medical Guild on Wednesday held a courtesy meeting with the Ministry of Establishments and Training as part of ongoing consultations with the State Government on matters affecting medical practitioners.

Receiving the delegation, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, praised doctors in the state for their commitment and significant contributions to healthcare delivery. He described medical professionals as indispensable partners in development, particularly within the healthcare sector.

Ayantayo reaffirmed that the current administration places strong emphasis on the welfare and professional interests of doctors, noting that the government has consistently taken steps to respond to their concerns in recognition of their critical role in protecting public health.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, advised the Medical Guild to submit its requests formally through the appropriate channels to ensure proper documentation and timely consideration.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Oluwole Olusanya, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner and the Ministry’s management for the engagement. He outlined key issues requiring government attention, including the proposed extension of doctors’ retirement age from 60 to 65 years, improved efficiency in promotion and advancement processes, and delays in salary payments for newly recruited medical officers.

Dr. Olusanya noted that resolving these challenges would strengthen doctors’ morale and translate to improved healthcare services across the state.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained dialogue and cooperation aimed at advancing a resilient and effective healthcare system in the state.
