The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strategic collaboration with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to deepen public awareness and promote responsible waste management practices across Lagos State.

During a courtesy visit to NAN’s Lagos Operations Office at the National Art Theatre, Iganmu, LAWMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, described media partnership as essential in influencing behavioural change within a rapidly expanding megacity. He stressed that sustained public sensitisation remains critical to environmental compliance.

Gbadegesin disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved the deployment of 300 Environmental Health Officers across wards to strengthen grassroots enforcement. He warned that residents flouting sanitation regulations would face sanctions in accordance with the law.

He further highlighted LAWMA’s collaboration with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to deploy Compressed Natural Gas-powered waste trucks under a Public-Private Partnership model, aimed at improving efficiency and lowering carbon emissions.

The agency also announced the disengagement of 27 non-performing Private Sector Participants in 2025, while 22 others remain on notice. Gbadegesin added that plans are underway to review the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017 to align it with emerging waste management realities.
