In a strategic move to safeguard public health, the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) has entered into a partnership with the Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The collaboration is aimed at sensitizing community stakeholders on the critical importance of water hygiene, sanitation, and adherence to state regulations.

The Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Mrs. Khadijah Oluwabukola Adeyemo, led a comprehensive sensitization exercise involving borehole drillers, community leaders, and market groups. She argued that water must be viewed as a vital public good rather than a mere commodity, noting its direct link to the economic productivity and overall health of the Lagos populace.

Addressing the audience, Mrs. Adeyemo warned that unsafe water sources are the primary drivers of devastating outbreaks such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. She stressed that proper borehole construction and regular water testing are not just regulatory requirements but essential life-saving practices, particularly in densely populated areas where the risk of contamination is high.

Representing the Council Chairman, the Vice-Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin, Alhaji Wasiu Oluwole Dehinsilu, lauded the commission for its proactive approach. He stated that the local government is fully committed to enforcing water safety standards, recognizing that the social and health benefits of clean water are unquantifiable for his constituents.

The initiative aligns with the "THEMES Plus" agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration, which prioritizes sustainable development and public safety. By bridging the gap between regulators and the community, both LASWARCO and the LCDA aim to create a more resilient water sector that protects vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.
