In a major move to ramp up registration numbers, LASRRA General Manager Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola met with Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, on Thursday, January 8th, 2026. The high-level meeting focused on penetrating local communities through established grassroots structures. The strategy involves using Chieftaincy Affairs, Community Development Associations (CDAs), and Market Boards to drive participation at the very heart of Lagos neighborhoods.

During the discussions, Adebiyi-Abiola emphasized that traditional rulers and community leaders are the essential "gatekeepers" of society. Their influence is seen as pivotal in mobilizing residents who may have been hesitant or unable to access formal registration centers. While LASRRA has always registered various categories of residents, the General Manager noted that deepening the partnership with the Ministry is necessary to achieve total coverage across all local government areas.
Mrs. Bolarinwa assured LASRRA of the Ministry’s full cooperation, promising to facilitate access to traditional palaces, community halls, and market squares. By turning these familiar locations into temporary registration points, the agency hopes to remove the barriers of distance and bureaucracy for the average citizen. This grassroots approach is expected to significantly boost the agency's data management capabilities and support more effective state planning.
The collaboration will soon see the rollout of coordinated action plans, including massive sensitization programs to educate the public on the benefits of LASRRA registration. These include improved access to healthcare, education, and other social intervention programs provided by the Lagos State Government. Strengthening the population database is viewed as a prerequisite for the state’s continued economic and social evolution.

Ultimately, the partnership aims to create a seamless flow of information from the local level to the central state database. By empowering market executives and traditional leaders to champion the cause, LASRRA is ensuring that every resident has a voice and a recognized identity. This effort reinforces the state’s commitment to data-driven governance and comprehensive resident management.
