The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining a neutral and transparent electoral process. This commitment was voiced by the Commission’s Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), during a post-election retreat held to evaluate the conduct of the July 2025 local government elections.

The retreat, themed “Execution to Evaluation: Building a More Resilient Electoral Process for Lagos State,” served as an honest audit of the commission’s performance. Senior officials gathered to identify operational gaps and discuss strategies to consolidate the gains made during the last voting cycle across the state’s LGAs and LCDAs.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile emphasized that the electoral process extends far beyond what happens on election day. She noted that sustainable growth for the commission relies on continuous self-assessment and the adoption of international best practices to ensure that future elections command the full trust of the voting public and political stakeholders.
To achieve this, LASIEC plans to intensify its focus on human capacity development and the modernization of internal control processes. The Chairman highlighted that providing a conducive work environment and fostering innovation among staff are critical components of building a resilient and independent electoral umpire.

The Commission concluded the retreat with a pledge to remain an unbiased arbiter in the state’s democratic process. By prioritizing transparency and institutional integrity, LASIEC aims to set a high standard for local government elections in Nigeria, ensuring that the will of the people is accurately reflected in every poll.
