Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the State Government’s readiness to partner with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to develop a world-class Convention Centre. The proposed facility is slated for construction along the Lekki-Epe expressway, strategically located near Alaro City. This project is intended to serve as a premier hub for international trade exhibitions and conferences, further cementing Lagos’ status as Africa's top commercial destination.

Representing the Governor, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat received the LCCI delegation led by their newly elected President, Engr. Leye Kupoluyi. Dr. Hamzat assured the leadership that the government is committed to reviewing their requests and providing the necessary support to bring the project to fruition. He emphasized that such a facility would attract global investors and provide a significant boost to local businesses and the hospitality sector.
To ensure the project’s success, the Governor directed the LCCI to work closely with the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant agencies. He noted that while the executive branch is passionate about the initiative, clear coordination between institutions is essential for effective execution. The Convention Centre aligns with the administration's THEMES Plus agenda, which prioritizes job creation, tourism, and enhancing the state’s global competitiveness.
The Governor also used the opportunity to highlight the state's proactive approach to food security and agriculture. He invited the LCCI to contribute their expertise to the Ministry of Food Systems, which is currently executing long-term development plans. By integrating the Chamber’s experience with the state’s 15-year agricultural roadmap, the partnership aims to modernize local production and stabilize the food supply chain for the growing population.

Engr. Leye Kupoluyi commended the state government for maintaining an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive. He stated that the LCCI and the government share a "common destiny" in positioning Lagos as a gateway for the entire African continent. Beyond the convention centre, the Chamber expressed specific interest in boosting agricultural production within the state’s hinterlands to meet the high consumption demands of the metropolitan area.
