The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Government of Japan, has concluded a one-year cholera prevention project targeting informal vendors and waste workers in flood-prone communities.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, described the initiative as proactive, noting that 1,054 residents benefited from sensitisation campaigns while over 450 vendors received practical hygiene training.

The intervention followed the 2024 cholera outbreak in Lagos and was supported by a $225,000 grant from Japan through UNIDO.

UNIDO Representative Ambassador Philbert Johnson and Japan’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Hideo Suzuki, reaffirmed continued support for public health initiatives.

Officials noted that since the campaign began, no new cholera outbreak has been recorded, reflecting the effectiveness of preventive strategies.
