Lagos Treasury Office Gets New Accountant-General as Muritala Hands Over

A new chapter in Lagos State’s financial administration has begun following the formal handover ceremony between the retiring Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary of the State Treasury Office, Dr. Abiodun Shefiu Muritala, and his successor, Dr. Muyiwa John Adetola.

The ceremony, held at the Office of the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, marked a smooth leadership transition in one of the state’s most critical financial institutions. The event underscored the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maintaining continuity, transparency and professionalism in the management of public finances.
During the brief ceremony, Dr. Muritala was widely commended for his years of dedicated service to the state and for his contributions to strengthening the financial architecture of the Lagos public service. Stakeholders noted that his tenure was characterised by prudent fiscal management, accountability and improved treasury operations that supported the state’s development agenda.
In his remarks, the new Accountant-General, Dr. Adetola, expressed appreciation for the solid institutional foundation established by his predecessor. He assured stakeholders that he would continue to uphold the highest standards of fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in the management of the state treasury.

Officials at the State Treasury Office also extended their goodwill to Dr. Muritala as he retires from public service, while expressing confidence that the new Accountant-General will build on existing achievements and continue strengthening the financial systems that support governance and service delivery in Lagos State.
