Lagos Trains Students on Waste, Fire Safety

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has organised a sensitisation programme on waste management sustainability and fire prevention for students and teachers from public secondary schools across the state.

The programme, held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, featured presentations from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Ali-Balogun, stressed the importance of collective action in building a safer and more sustainable environment, urging students to serve as Safety Ambassadors in their schools and communities.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, described the initiative as timely, noting that a clean and safe school environment is essential for effective teaching and learning..

Participants received hands-on training on waste sorting, recycling, fire prevention, and emergency response, while teachers were encouraged to lead by example in enforcing safety and environmental standards
