Lagos To Divert Traffic on Sunday For 'Eko 170' Cycling Race

The Lagos state government has announced a temporary traffic Diversion across parts of the city on sunday, January 11,2026, to allow smooth staging of the EKO 170 cycling race. The diversion will be in effect from early morning until the afternoon.

The announcement was made by the commissioner for Transportation,Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who said the measures are necessary to guarantee the safety of cyclists and other road users during the event. He assured residents that the traffic controls officials wil be fully deployed to manage movement along affected corridors according to the government,the cycling race will feature two major routes, covering approximately 70 kilometers and 170 kilometers respectively.

Both route will start and end at EKo Atlantic city, passing through key areas including Ahmadu Bello way,the coastal road axis, and parts of the Lekki Epe Expressway.

Motorists are advised that roads along the race routes will experience partial restrictions,with traffic being regulated rather than completely shut down. Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority,supported by security agencies,will be on ground to direct vehicles and minimise disruption.

Commuters have also been advised to obey traffic officials and road signs throughout the duration of the event. Mr osiyemi noted that the Eko170 cycling race forms part of Lagos State broader effects to promote sports tourism, healthy living and alternative transportation options within the city. He appealed for patience and cooperation from the public.

Normal traffic flow is expected to resume immediately,after the conclusion of the race on Sunday afternoon.
