The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has inaugurated a new Zonal Office in Iru-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area to enhance regulatory enforcement and improve service delivery within high-density commercial districts.

The General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, described the initiative as a strategic move to strengthen institutional presence in rapidly expanding commercial hubs such as Victoria Island, Iru and Eti-Osa. He noted that increasing wastewater generation in these areas necessitates improved monitoring and compliance mechanisms.
According to Afolabi, the new office will enable faster response to environmental complaints, tighter supervision of septic systems and wastewater discharge activities, and improved collaboration with corporate bodies, hospitality establishments and private operators.
He emphasised that decentralised operations and data-driven monitoring are critical to effective wastewater governance in a megacity like Lagos. The zonal structure, he added, will reinforce environmental standards and sanitation laws while protecting public health and water bodies from pollution.

Members of the public have been encouraged to report wastewater-related infractions through the agency’s official channels, including designated telephone lines and social media platforms. The new office is expected to serve as a model for improved coordination as LSWMO continues expanding its operational footprint across the state.
