Lagos State Inaugurates Planning Committee to Honour Late De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a high-level Planning Committee for the grand celebration of the life and times of the late Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I. The inauguration ceremony was performed by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, at the Akran’s Palace in Jegba, Badagry.


Charging members of the committee, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged them to approach the assignment with unity, clarity of purpose and determination to deliver a befitting and historic celebration in honour of the revered monarch. He emphasised that the ceremony must reflect the dignity, legacy and remarkable 48-year reign of the late traditional ruler, who joined his ancestors in January 2026 at the age of 89.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the Committee and SSG, Barr. Salu-Hundeyin, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the confidence reposed in her and other members. She described Badagry as a culturally significant division of the state and stressed the importance of collective commitment in achieving the Governor’s vision for a memorable celebration.

She further noted that the committee’s activities would align with the inclusivity pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda. According to her, all resolutions and outcomes of the committee will be formally documented in the State Gazette, while deliberations will be presented to the Governor for ratification.


Speaking on behalf of the family, Princess Adetola Akran-Oketunde expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued support and commitment to honouring their father. Dignitaries at the inauguration included Hon. Solomon Bonu of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Home Affairs Hon. Ibrahim Layode, traditional rulers, religious leaders and local government chairmen, all of whom pledged support toward delivering a dignified celebration befitting the stature of the late monarch.
