The Lagos State government, via the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), has empowered 100 elderly citizens living with disabilities, as well as elderly parents caring for children with disabilities, under its annual support initiative.

The programme, titled “Cash Support and Medical Outreach to Elderly Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Caregivers”, combines financial assistance with healthcare services for beneficiaries drawn from across the state. It reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusion, social protection, and ensuring that vulnerable residents are not left behind.

Speaking at the event held Tuesday, 23rd December 2025, at the LASODA headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, General Manager Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal emphasized that the initiative goes beyond financial aid, promoting independence, dignity, and meaningful engagement within communities.

“At LASODA, inclusion guides every action. This initiative provides support to help elders meet personal needs, access healthcare, improve mobility, and sustain small livelihood activities. Our objective is simple: to empower, not merely to give,” Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal said.

She also addressed concerns of elderly caregivers worried about the future of their children with disabilities, assuring them of the government’s continued support and encouraging regular engagement with relevant agencies.

The LASODA General Manager reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities and fostering their full integration into society.

Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude for the timely support, noting its significance during the festive season.

Through programmes like this, Lagos State continues to set an example of social inclusivity and care for vulnerable populations.
