Lagos State has reinforced its commitment to agricultural innovation and youth empowerment by awarding a total of N150 million to 33 outstanding agripreneurs. The beneficiaries were selected through the Lagos Agrithon initiative, a competitive programme aimed at identifying, mentoring, and supporting young innovators transforming the state’s agricultural landscape.

The grant presentation took place during the Lagos Agrinnovation Summit 2.0, which gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to discuss sustainable food production and distribution strategies. The summit underscored Lagos’ efforts to build resilient agrifood systems capable of meeting the needs of its rapidly growing population.

The Commissioner for Agriculture & Food Systems described the Agrithon as a strategic investment in youth talent and a catalyst for turning agriculture into a high-value, technologically driven sector. The programme seeks to reduce reliance on food imports, enhance local production, and equip entrepreneurs with both financial and technical support, positioning Lagos as a hub for agritech innovation in Nigeria.

Awardees represented diverse areas including aquaculture, crop production, food processing, agri-logistics, and agritech. Many presented climate-smart, sustainable, and digitally enabled solutions. With the grant, these agripreneurs are expected to scale operations, create jobs, and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
