The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of an additional 150 firefighters into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), reinforcing the State’s commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness. The move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen response capacity across Lagos.

The approval was disclosed by the Controller-General of the Agency, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, during the flag-off of the LSFRS Squad 23 training exercise in Ikeja. She noted that the recruitment reflects the administration’s determination to build a resilient and professionally trained fire and rescue service capable of responding effectively to emergencies.

Adeseye recalled that the Sanwo-Olu administration has consistently invested in the Fire Service, citing the recruitment of 100 firefighters in 2020 and the historic enlistment of 435 personnel in 2022. She said the 2022 recruitment marked the highest in the Service’s history and coincided with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Agency.

She further highlighted major infrastructural investments, including the commissioning of 62 fire apparatuses, new fire stations in Ajegunle, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru–Lekki, as well as the unveiling of an ultra-modern headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja. These developments, she said, have significantly enhanced operational efficiency.

According to the Controller-General, the newly recruited firefighters, employed in November 2025, are currently undergoing intensive professional training at the upgraded Fire Academy. She reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to continuous investment in human capacity development to safeguard lives, property, and the environment.
