The Lagos State Government has distributed cash and food items to hundreds of its pensioners, putting smiles on their faces and reaffirming its commitment to retired public servants who devoted their productive years to building and sustaining the state’s public service, as part of its end-of-year welfare support to ensure they celebrate the festive season with dignity and comfort.

The welfare packages were distributed during an event titled “Welfare Packages Distribution for Lagos State Pensioners” held at the NECA Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, and formed part of the state’s annual intervention aimed at supporting pensioners across its administrative divisions.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, described the retirees as “retired but not tired,” noting that their sacrifices, resilience, and dedication laid the foundation for the Lagos State Public Service as it exists today.

Agoro said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu places a high premium on the welfare of both serving officers and pensioners, stressing that the initiative reflects the administration’s resolve not to abandon workers after retirement, especially during the festive season.

He explained that the programme is a two-day exercise, with pensioners in Ikeja Division receiving their packages first, while those in Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos and Epe divisions would be attended to simultaneously the following day to ensure equity, convenience, and orderly distribution.

“This distribution could not have come at a better time, especially with Christmas around the corner. Each time I see you, you look radiant, healthy and full of life, and this administration truly values you and your years of service,” Agoro said.
“We are gathered here not merely to distribute items, but to honour, appreciate and reaffirm our commitment to the wellbeing of our senior citizens who dedicated many years to strengthening the Lagos State Public Service. Retirement only magnifies the significance of your contributions, and you deserve to enjoy this phase of life in dignity, comfort and fulfilment,” the Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission, Mr Babalola Obilana, said.

Obilana assured the pensioners of sustained care and inclusion, adding that the Lagos State Government would continue to prioritise prompt pension payments, healthcare support and welfare programmes, as beneficiaries departed the venue with a renewed sense that their service remains valued even in retirement.
