The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to continuously upgrading resilient drainage infrastructure across the state, as part of efforts to mitigate flooding during the 2026 rainy season.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, reaffirmed this position while addressing the media after an inspection tour of ongoing drainage projects in several parts of the state.
He noted that recent heavy rainfall underscores the realities of climate change and global warming, stressing that proactive infrastructure development remains critical to safeguarding lives and property.
The Commissioner disclosed that illegal encroachments along key drainage alignments had been identified, leading to the issuance of stop-work orders to prevent long-term damage to drainage systems.

Wahab appealed to residents to take ownership of public infrastructure by avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal, assuring that the government will continue to strengthen advocacy, enforcement, and infrastructure upgrades statewide.
