Lagos Pays N36.3m in Cash Rewards to Gateway Games Medallists

The Lagos State Government has disbursed N36.3 million in cash rewards to athletes who won medals for the state at the 2024 National Sports Festival, tagged the Gateway Games.

The payments followed approval by the Lagos State Sports Commission and were confirmed by athletes who participated in the competition held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in May 2025.

Team Lagos finished sixth overall at the festival, winning 38 gold, 43 silver, and 88 bronze medals across various sporting events.

Individual gold medallists received N300,000 each, while team gold winners shared N700,000, with corresponding rewards for silver and bronze categories.

The gesture reinforces Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to athlete welfare and sports development, following similar rewards given to junior athletes after their historic success at the National Youth Games.
