Nurses in Lagos State Government hospitals have been urged to collaborate more effectively with other healthcare professionals to achieve integrated patient care. The call was made during the Year 2026 Retreat for Nurses held at The Zone along Gbagada-Oworonshoki Expressway.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, delivered a lecture titled “Breaking Professional Silos in Healthcare: The Nurse as a Connector,” where she encouraged nurses to see themselves as vital links within the healthcare system. She stressed that quality healthcare can only be achieved through teamwork.

Dr. Ogunyemi, speaking to over 100 nurses physically present and 80 others online, warned that working in silos would further fragment the health system. She urged nurses to remain proactive contributors within multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best outcomes for patients.

Permanent Secretary, Health Service Commission, Dr. Cecilia Abimbola Mabogunje, reinforced the message, urging vigilance and professionalism. She emphasised that collaboration is essential in modern healthcare and cautioned against complacency.

Director of Nursing Services, Nurse Adebukola Cole, highlighted accountability and shared responsibility as central to integrated care. The retreat also featured lectures on medical errors, financial planning, and concluded with awards, presentations, and cultural activities.
