The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step toward resolving persistent electricity challenges in the Ibeju-Lekki axis with the convening of a high-level stakeholders’ meeting on the establishment of a 132KV/33KV Power Substation at Sapati Village. The initiative is aimed at strengthening power and gas infrastructure across the rapidly developing Lekki-Epe corridor.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), Alausa, Ikeja, was chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye. It brought together key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to address outstanding technical, regulatory and right-of-way issues affecting the project.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Ogunleye conveyed the directive of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, stressing that the provision of stable electricity and gas infrastructure remains a top priority of the administration. He noted that residents of Ibeju-Lekki have endured years of unreliable power supply, which the government is determined to permanently address.

Discussions focused on challenges associated with gas infrastructure deployment, including Gaslink-related issues, right-of-way constraints, and the evaluation of technical solutions for effective power delivery. The Commissioner disclosed that gas pipeline construction has reached Abraham Adesanya Junction, with plans underway to extend the connection to Alaro City, while a 104-metre right-of-way has been reserved for the project.

At the close of the meeting, MDAs were mandated to submit their respective sign-offs on the right-of-way by January 23, 2026, to enable timely execution. The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fast-tracking the project, noting that its completion would unlock economic growth, improve living standards, and accelerate development in the Ibeju-Lekki corridor.
