Lagos Marks World Data Privacy Week with Senior Officers’ Seminar

The Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MIST), in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, has organised a one-day seminar for management staff across 105 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to mark World Data Privacy Week and strengthen information governance in the public service.

The seminar introduced newly approved Data Protection Policies aligned with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023. The policies include frameworks on Email, Password, Privacy, CCTV, Clear Desk, Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR), Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA), and Compliance & Review.
Delivering the keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, explained that the initiative aims to institutionalise responsible data processing across MDAs. He also outlined circulars guiding NDPA implementation and clarifying the roles of Data Protection Officers.
Permanent Secretary, Engr. (Mrs.) Ibilola Kasunmu, emphasised the urgent need to safeguard personal data in public institutions. Facilitators including Mr. Kehinde Ibrahim, Mrs. Olanrewaju Komolafe, and Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi enriched the workshop with technical insights.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session moderated by Mrs. Gbemi Kayode-Bolarinwa, reinforcing the State Government’s resolve to entrench data protection and privacy compliance within the public service.
