The Lagos State Government has launched a comprehensive initiative to identify, document, and formalise informal land spaces across the state as part of efforts to curb misuse and unlock economic value.

The initiative was unveiled at a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Lagos State Valuation Office in Alausa, with participation from relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Engr. Olumide Sotire, described informal land spaces as widely abused, stressing that the government was taking deliberate steps to reclaim and restore them.
He disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Octagon Multi Projects as the consulting firm for the statewide exercise, which is driven by the slogan, “In Lagos, every square metre matters.”

The project is expected to boost revenue generation, improve land administration, and promote sustainable development by ensuring all land assets are properly valued and integrated into the state’s planning framework.
