The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) has commenced a statewide advocacy and sensitisation drive ahead of the 2026 Measles–Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, with a mega awareness walk held in Ikeja on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The initiative follows the official flag-off of the introduction of the MR vaccine into the state’s routine immunisation programme earlier in the week.

The advocacy walk, which began at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, proceeded through Obafemi Awolowo Way to Allen Roundabout and back to the Secretariat, was designed to draw public attention to the importance of immunising children aged nine months to 14 years against measles and rubella. Health officials used the exercise to engage residents directly and dispel misinformation surrounding vaccination.

Led by the Permanent Secretary of the LSPHCB, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, mni, the walk featured senior officials of the Board, representatives of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and development partners including UNICEF, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and AFENET. Their presence underscored the multi-sectoral collaboration driving Lagos State’s public health interventions.

Officials noted that the awareness walk marks the continuation of intensive mobilisation activities across all local government areas, as Lagos State works toward achieving high vaccination coverage and protecting millions of children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
