The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) have completed their final round of consultations with informal bus operators ahead of the rollout of a regulated bus service on the Lekki–Epe corridor.
Officials confirmed that the new phase of operations will begin with the deployment of 229 buses, marking a major step in the state’s efforts to reorganise transportation on the rapidly developing stretch.
LAMATA stated that the initiative is expected to bring improved safety standards and better journey experiences to daily commuters who rely heavily on the route. The agency noted that the corridor has long required a more structured system to handle its growing passenger traffic.
As part of the plan, the regulated scheme will eventually be extended beyond Ajah to cover the full length of the corridor up to Epe. Authorities say this wider expansion will create more seamless and reliable travel for residents and workers.
Under the operational arrangement, one transport provider will run an express service, moving passengers between major stops with minimal delays. Other operators participating in the scheme will offer stage-by-stage services to ensure broad coverage of the area.
All buses included in the programme will operate under standardised Lagos colours and branding. They will also carry QR-enabled verification stickers meant to support the Passenger Transport Control System, boosting transparency and commuter confidence.
Transport officials emphasised that the regulated model is designed to promote discipline among operators, reduce unsafe driving practices, and ensure predictable travel times. They added that this approach will help reduce congestion caused by uncoordinated bus movements.
With stakeholder engagements now concluded, LAMATA says the state is fully prepared to commence the new operations. Residents along the axis have been advised to expect a more organised and commuter-friendly transport environment once the scheme begins.
