The commissioner is expected to set the tone for discussions on the theme: “New Towns and Their Impact on Economic Development,” as stakeholders gather to examine the future of urban growth in Nigeria.

Organised by UPDC Plc, a leading real estate development and investment company, the fourth edition of the summit will bring together policymakers, investors, developers, and industry thought leaders to explore how purpose-built urban settlements can shape national economic transformation.

UPDC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Odunayo Ojo, said new towns—including the company’s flagship Brompton City represent a strategic pathway to achieving balanced and sustainable development across the country.

The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Franklin Ngwu, Director of the Public Sector Initiative and Professor of Strategic Management & Governance at Lagos Business School.

“The development of new towns holds significant potential for driving inclusive economic growth,” Ojo said. “They offer structured environments that can support housing, commerce, and long-term investment.”
“These urban projects are designed to reduce pressure on existing city centres, unlock new economic zones, and foster coordinated growth that aligns with global best practices,” he added.

Panellists at the summit include the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Oluwole Olumide Sotire; Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Eko Development Company, Mrs. Erejuwa Gbadebo; and Chief Investment Officer of TotalEnergies Nigeria Closed Pension Fund Administrators, Mr. Louis Ogbeifun. The session will be moderated by the Chief Commercial Officer of UPDC Plc, Mr. Priye Johnson.
