Lagos State Christian pilgrims participating in the 2025 holy pilgrimage have commenced visits to key biblical and historical sites in Jordan as part of their 10-day spiritual exercise. The pilgrimage activities began with visits to Mount Nebo, the ancient fortress of Machaerus, and the Dead Sea.

At Mount Nebo, pilgrims visited the site traditionally believed to be where Moses viewed the Promised Land before his death. They also observed the Brazen Serpent Monument, symbolising the bronze serpent lifted by Moses during the Israelites’ journey, a significant biblical landmark.

The pilgrims also visited Mukawir, historically known as Machaerus, the hilltop fortress built by Herod the Great. The site is believed to be where John the Baptist was imprisoned and beheaded. The tour continued to the Dead Sea, widely recognised as the lowest point on earth and a major natural landmark.

Throughout the journey, the Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Dr. Okudero Gbolabo Omoniyi, alongside operational staff, ensured the safety, coordination, and welfare of the pilgrims. Several participants shared testimonies, expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to experience the historic sites.

Spiritual activities remained central to the pilgrimage, with prayers and praises offered at each location for the pilgrims, Lagos State, and Nigeria. Devotional sessions were also held daily, including during transit between sites. The pilgrims are expected to enter Israel on Day Three of the pilgrimage, Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
