As Nigerians across the world welcomed 2026, Collins Idahosa, Vice President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Diaspora, delivered a New Year message directed largely at Nigerian youths living abroad, urging them to remain active contributors to national development despite prevailing challenges.

Speaking from Sweden, Idahosa emphasized that Nigerians in the diaspora occupy a strategic position in shaping the country’s future through skills transfer, advocacy, investment, and positive representation. He called on the Federal Government to deliberately integrate youth and diaspora interests into national policies, stressing that sustainable progress requires inclusive governance.

Idahosa also cautioned against violence and disunity, encouraging young Nigerians globally to embrace peace and responsible civic engagement as tools for change. According to him, meaningful transformation begins when youths take collective responsibility for the image and stability of the nation.

Addressing diaspora youths directly, he urged them not to lose focus due to economic pressures, immigration hurdles, or social barriers in their host countries. He noted that their resilience, global exposure, and continued engagement with Nigeria remain critical to the country’s growth and international standing.

In the same message, Idahosa congratulated Seyi Tinubu on his recent chieftaincy honour in Boston, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s expanding cultural and political footprint abroad.

Reaffirming NYCN Diaspora’s mandate, Idahosa said the council will continue to mobilise and empower Nigerian youths overseas, while strengthening ties between the diaspora and the home front.

He concluded by calling on Nigerian youths worldwide to remain united, purpose-driven, and committed to building a stable and prosperous Nigeria, regardless of where they reside.
