A woman was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Tuesday, according to federal authorities.

The Department of Homeland Security said the incident occurred after the woman allegedly attempted to use her vehicle to run down ICE officers at the scene. Officials described the act as a deliberate attack on law enforcement personnel.

Authorities stated that the officer discharged his weapon after assessing an immediate threat to his life, his colleagues, and nearby members of the public. The woman was struck during the response and later pronounced dead.

Two ICE officers sustained injuries during the incident but are expected to recover fully, officials confirmed. No civilian injuries were reported.

The shooting comes amid heightened tensions surrounding immigration enforcement across several U.S. cities, where recent operations have drawn protests and sharp public criticism.

Federal agencies said investigations into the circumstances of the shooting are ongoing, in line with standard procedure following officer-involved fatalities.

The Department of Homeland Security reiterated its position that attacks on federal officers would be treated as serious criminal acts, while maintaining that officers are trained to use lethal force only when facing imminent danger.
