U.S. immigration authorities have arrested a Nigerian national, Olatunde Abiodun Olusanjo, over allegations involving sexual offences, with moves underway to deport him from the country.
Officials from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that the 53-year-old was taken into custody in Los Angeles on April 21 during an enforcement operation targeting individuals in violation of immigration laws.
According to the agency, Olusanjo is being held for remaining in the United States without legal status. He is currently in detention pending the conclusion of removal proceedings.
ICE disclosed that the suspect has a record of prior arrests connected to serious offences, including child molestation, sexual battery, and solicitation of lewd conduct. Authorities noted that such cases are prioritised under ongoing enforcement strategies.
The arrest forms part of a broader immigration crackdown under President Donald Trump, whose administration has intensified actions against undocumented migrants, particularly those with criminal histories.
Figures released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security suggest that a significant number of Nigerians are among foreign nationals currently facing deportation as enforcement efforts expand nationwide.
The development has triggered debate across social media platforms, with some observers questioning whether suspects accused of grave crimes should face prosecution in the United States before deportation.
Others have raised concerns about the potential risks of returning individuals accused of serious offences to their home countries without additional legal consequences.
Authorities have yet to announce a specific date for Olusanjo’s deportation, but officials say the process will proceed in line with established U.S. immigration laws and due process requirements.
