Concerned indigenes of Ibiaku Uruan community in the diaspora have appealed to Governor Umo Eno to urgently rehabilitate the 8.5-kilometre Nduetong Oku–Ibiaku Uruan Ekritam Road and its 60-metre bridge, which they described as a critical lifeline to Uyo.

In a jointly signed letter, the group lamented that the road has remained in deplorable condition for decades, despite repeated contract awards. Dr. Godswill Ekpo, writing from Italy, said the neglect has subjected residents to prolonged hardship.

Similarly, Prof. Magnus Okon Bassey, based in the United States, noted that flooding during the rainy season completely cuts off Ibiaku Uruan from Uyo, disrupting access to schools, markets, and healthcare. “This is not just about infrastructure; it is about dignity for our people,” he stated.

Other signatories, including lawyers Victor Ekpo, Asuquo Asuquo, and Inyang Eric Bassey in the U.S., drew attention to schoolchildren wading through floodwaters and farmers unable to transport produce to urban markets. They argued that fixing the road would ease movement, boost commerce, and improve Akwa Ibom’s economy.

Prof. Ifiok Otung (U.K.), alongside Dr. Edet Isuk and Eyibio Adah (U.S.), urged Governor Eno to seize the opportunity to restore hope to the community. “History will remember your administration for reversing decades of neglect,” they said.

The appeal, sent under the banner of Concerned Citizens of Ibiaku Uruan, was also copied to Senator Aniekan Bassey, members of the National and State Assembly, the Commissioner for Works, the Uruan LGA Chairman, council leaders, traditional authorities, and the state’s diaspora coordinator.
