The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside the Gbadewolu of Araromi Kingdom, Oba Olayemi Lukman Arowolo, has commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for expanding access to free healthcare for vulnerable residents through the EKO Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA).

The commendation was given during an EKOSHA town hall meeting organised by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) in Ibeju-Lekki. Hon. Olowa described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the State Government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare.

He further praised the increase in the Equity Fund from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion, describing it as a bold, people-centred intervention yielding tangible grassroots results. According to him, the impact of the initiative is evident in public hospitals such as Massey Children’s Hospital and facilities in Ojo, where beneficiaries have accessed free healthcare services.

The Chairman disclosed that 500 vulnerable residents in Ibeju-Lekki have recently been enrolled under EKOSHA, with previous beneficiaries enjoying free childbirth services. He also pledged continued support for equipping Primary Health Centres to serve both EKOSHA beneficiaries and ILERA EKO enrollees effectively.

the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, urged enrollees to report any challenges through the Agency’s toll-free lines. She warned healthcare providers against unethical practices and reaffirmed LASHMA’s commitment to grassroots engagement and service improvement, while beneficiaries shared testimonies of successful childbirths under the scheme.
