Housing Estate Maintenance, Sustainability Is Top Priority For Lagos - Commissioner

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable housing management, declaring maintenance of state-owned estates a top priority. Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made this known during the Ministry’s two-day Annual Management Retreat held in Abeokuta.

Akinderu-Fatai emphasised that the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu is focused on protecting real estate investments through efficient facility management systems and durable infrastructure. He stressed that sustainability ethics must be entrenched in housing development.

The retreat, themed “Enhancing Service Delivery for Sustainable Housing Development and Management,” aimed to deepen managerial capacity and reinforce performance-driven engagement among senior officials. Participants examined operational strategies to strengthen coordination and accountability.

A key highlight was a session facilitated by Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Egube, who analysed global and national economic trends affecting the housing sector. He underscored the critical role of public-private partnerships in stimulating investment and expanding housing access.

Permanent Secretary Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola announced plans to commission four additional housing estates before the end of 2026. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s goal of ensuring that every Lagosian has access to affordable and quality housing.
