Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended Guinness Nigeria for its 75-year contribution to industrial growth, community development, and social investment in the state and across the country.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, at the company’s 75th anniversary dinner in Lagos, the Governor described Guinness Nigeria as a long-standing partner whose journey mirrors Nigeria’s economic evolution. He noted that the company has grown from a small trading enterprise in 1950 into a major global manufacturer with deep community ties.
Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of the company’s presence since establishing its first brewery in Lagos in 1962, its first facility outside Ireland and Great Britain, saying Guinness has become part of Nigeria’s cultural and economic fabric.
He highlighted the Water of Life programme, which has delivered clean water access to more than 500,000 people, alongside Plan-W, which empowers women with business and financial skills. He also praised the firm’s educational investments, including its undergraduate scholarship scheme that has supported many young Nigerians.
The Governor said Guinness Nigeria exemplifies how corporate success is best measured through sustained social impact rather than profit alone. He acknowledged generations of workers, partners, farmers, and consumers who have shaped the company’s seven-decade story, describing the anniversary as a testament to the synergy between global vision and local dedication.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in deeper future collaboration between the state and the brewery giant, particularly in industrial expansion and community-focused development. He congratulated the company and wished it continued innovation and prosperity in the decades ahead.
