Group Seeks Presidential Intervention Over Developer, Diaspora Investors Dispute

A civil rights organisation has called for urgent intervention by Bola Tinubu in a lingering dispute involving Winhomes Global Services Limited and diaspora investors affected by the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road project.

The group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, expressed concern that the unresolved matter is damaging Nigeria’s image as a secure destination for investment and weakening confidence in governance systems.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the association said the case has dragged on for more than two years despite repeated engagements with relevant authorities and submission of required documentation by affected parties.

According to the group, efforts to resolve the dispute, including invitations extended to diaspora investors to return for dialogue, have not resulted in compensation or closure, raising questions about administrative efficiency and accountability.

HURIWA also referenced a public statement attributed to David Umahi, who reportedly acknowledged ordering the demolition of the Winhomes estate, noting that the directive did not originate from the presidency.

The association said the admission raises serious constitutional concerns regarding due process, authority, and the protection of private investments, urging the federal government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the decision.

It further warned that the situation reflects a broader pattern of risk for diaspora investors, particularly highlighting claims that one investor suffered financial losses, reputational damage, and delays in seeking redress.

HURIWA stressed that failure to resolve the dispute could discourage both local and foreign investors, calling for a transparent investigation, fair compensation for affected parties, and decisive leadership to restore trust in Nigeria’s legal and economic environment.
