Gov. Sanwo-Olu Welcomes Tax Ombudsman, Reaffirms Commitment to Fair Tax System

The Governor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday received the Tax Ombudsman, Dr. John Nwabueze, at Lagos House, Marina, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability within the state’s tax administration system

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the critical role of the Tax Ombudsman’s office in promoting fairness and providing clarity for taxpayers across Lagos State. The engagement underscored the administration’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that tax processes remain open, equitable, and responsive to citizens’ concerns.
Dr. Nwabueze emphasized the importance of building public trust in taxation through transparency, timely dispute resolution, and improved communication between tax authorities and the public. His office, he noted, is positioned to serve as an independent channel for addressing grievances and ensuring that taxpayers are treated fairly.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that strengthening confidence in the tax system remains a key pillar of his administration’s governance agenda. He acknowledged the Ombudsman’s experience and dedication to institutional reforms, noting that such leadership is vital to sustaining a credible and citizen-focused revenue framework.

The Governor further expressed optimism about the impact of the Ombudsman’s role in fostering a more accountable and people-centered tax structure. He reiterated the state government’s readiness to collaborate with relevant institutions to enhance compliance, resolve disputes efficiently, and maintain trust in Lagos State’s tax administration system.
