Gov. Sanwo-Olu Welcomes Rotary International President

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hosted the visiting Rotary International President Francesco Arrezo at Lagos House, Marina, further strengthening ties between the state government and the global humanitarian body. The visit coincided with Rotary International District 9111’s official engagement in Lagos, where the organisation is spearheading a Peace Summit themed “Promoting Peace and Understanding: Rotary’s Role in Building a Harmonious Society.

Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed President Arrezo to Lagos, emphasising the mutual commitment to humanitarian service and community development. The Rotary International President’s visit forms part of a broader engagement in Nigeria, where the organisation’s members from District 9111 are hosting key events, including the peace summit scheduled at the Wole Soyinka Cultural Centre.
At the event, stakeholders from diverse sectors were expected to converge to discuss peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and community collaboration strategies. Speakers at the summit, including Rotary International leaders and academics, are poised to deliver insights on the organisation’s impact on peace education and community development.
Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded Rotary’s longstanding legacy of service, noting that partnerships with civic-led institutions are vital to reinforcing social cohesion and grassroots development. Rotary’s efforts, which historically include disease prevention, education, and community welfare programmes, align with Lagos State’s developmental priorities.

The governor reiterated his administration’s support for initiatives that foster service above self, anchor peaceful coexistence, and deepen civic responsibility among citizens. Sanwo-Olu emphasised that such collaborations strengthen the social fabric, expand volunteer-driven solutions, and enhance quality of life within communities across Lagos.
