Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that General Muhammed’s brief but impactful leadership was defined by clarity of purpose, firmness in decision-making, and an unwavering commitment to national discipline. According to him, the late leader demanded accountability from the civil service and set high standards that reoriented governance during a critical period in Nigeria’s history.
He further highlighted General Muhammed’s strong international presence, particularly his bold stance on justice, African unity, and Nigeria’s role on the global stage. The governor emphasized that the late Head of State carried Nigeria’s voice with confidence beyond its borders, earning respect across Africa and the international community.
Reflecting on the significance of the anniversary, Sanwo-Olu stated that General Muhammed’s life remains a powerful reminder that leadership is not measured by the length of time spent in office, but by the courage, resolve, and willingness to act decisively in the interest of the nation when duty calls.

The Lagos State Governor concluded by stressing that the most meaningful way to honour the memory of General Murtala Muhammed is through principled governance. He noted that government at all levels must remain focused, united in purpose, and committed to building a nation that truly reflects the values of discipline, integrity, and service exemplified by the late leader.
