The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has described Lagos as a major driver of Africa’s urban transformation while speaking at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum hosted by the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics in Boston, United States.

The forum, which focused on Africa’s Urban Future, brought together global leaders, policymakers and development experts to discuss the rapid expansion of cities across the continent and the challenges and opportunities associated with urban growth.

Addressing the audience, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos as one of Africa’s fastest-growing urban centres and a key example of how cities can drive economic development and innovation. He noted that Lagos is home to thousands of startups and continues to attract significant investment across technology, infrastructure and commerce.

The governor also pointed to major transportation initiatives such as the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line and Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line as evidence of the state’s commitment to modernising infrastructure and improving mobility for residents.

Sanwo-Olu further emphasised that with the right investments, partnerships and policy frameworks, African cities can become engines of innovation, resilience and inclusive growth. He concluded by reaffirming Lagos State’s commitment to building a globally competitive megacity that supports economic opportunities for its rapidly growing population.
