Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the Oniru Business and Cultural Day as a model of how visionary leadership can responsibly shape urban and economic development. The Governor made the remarks during the formal inauguration of the Oniru Business Council at Oniru Palace in Iru, Victoria Island, where he was represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

Sanwo-Olu commended the Oniru of Iru Kingdom for his strategic leadership, noting that the transformation of the Oniru axis from a largely residential enclave into a thriving hub for hospitality, real estate, and commerce reflects deliberate planning and strong collaboration between government, traditional institutions, and investors. He emphasised that inclusive economic growth remains central to the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda.

According to the Governor, Lagos has intentionally pursued policies that expand opportunities across SMEs, digital entrepreneurship, vocational training, and the creative economy to ensure prosperity is broad-based. He assured investors and business leaders that Lagos would remain stable, open for business, and forward-looking even as the state approaches another electoral cycle.

Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Bada-Ambrose, highlighted the role of traditional institutions in strengthening investor confidence and preserving cultural identity. She explained that the Oniru Business Network provides a structured platform for dialogue, regulatory clarity, and shared accountability among government, private sector stakeholders, and host communities.

In his address, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal described the council as the institutional expression of years of engagement and reflection across Iru land. He stated that coordinated growth, structured dialogue, and inclusive prosperity form the foundation of the initiative, guided by the philosophy of “Peace Through Partnership,” where culture, commerce, and community development reinforce one another for sustainable progress.
