The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the disbursement of N40 million to families of 20 officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who lost their lives in active service. The gesture underscores the state government’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices of its public servants.

Each of the affected families received a cheque of N2 million at a ceremony held on Wednesday at the LASTMA Secretariat in Oshodi, Lagos. The event was attended by senior government officials and representatives of the transportation sector.

Speaking at the presentation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, described the gesture as a recognition of the dedication and service of the deceased officers. He noted that Governor Sanwo-Olu has consistently shown appreciation for the role of LASTMA officers in ensuring smooth traffic flow in the state.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, also paid tribute to the fallen officers, describing them as symbols of patriotism who gave their lives in service to Lagos. He assured families of continued institutional support and welfare considerations.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, commended the governor for the initiative, stating that the gesture would strengthen public trust in government institutions and serve as a source of motivation for serving officers across the state
