Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday attended the 2026 Lagos International Polo

Tournament Governor’s Cup held at the prestigious Lagos Polo Club, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to promoting sports, tourism, and cultural heritage in the state.


The annual tournament, staged in the upscale district of Ikoyi, once again attracted polo enthusiasts, corporate leaders, diplomats, and members of the international sporting community. The Governor’s Cup remains one of the most anticipated highlights of the Lagos polo calendar, drawing competitive teams from across Nigeria and beyond.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu reflected on the deep historical roots of polo in Lagos, noting that the sport dates back to 1904 in the city. He described the enduring legacy of the game as a testament to Lagos’ rich heritage and cosmopolitan identity, emphasizing that the state continues to preserve tradition while embracing global relevance.

The Governor commended the organizers and participating teams for delivering a well-coordinated and competitive tournament that further strengthens Lagos’ reputation as a global destination for sporting excellence.
