Ghana has recalled its High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, following accusations of misconduct during recent party primaries in the West African country. The decision was made by the Ghanaian presidency in a move aimed at preserving the integrity of public office.

Ahmed, who also participated as a candidate in the primaries, faces allegations of engaging in activities that contravene Ghana’s code of conduct for public officials. Reports indicate that these activities may have influenced the internal election process.

The recall directive is immediate, reflecting the government’s commitment to ethical standards for its representatives abroad. Officials emphasized that public officeholders are expected to maintain impartiality and refrain from conduct that could compromise their official roles.

In response, Baba Jamal has publicly denied any wrongdoing. He maintained that his actions were within legal and ethical boundaries and stressed his willingness to cooperate fully with internal investigations into the allegations.

The Ghanaian National Democratic Congress (NDC) has initiated its own inquiry into the alleged irregularities during the primaries. Party sources say the investigation aims to ensure transparency and accountability in its internal electoral processes.

Observers note that the recall is unusual, as diplomatic envoys are rarely removed over domestic political issues. Analysts suggest the move signals the government’s seriousness in maintaining ethical governance standards, even for officials posted abroad.

The situation continues to attract attention both domestically and internationally. Ghana’s government has reiterated its commitment to upholding public service ethics, while monitoring bodies and political stakeholders await the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
