The Government of Ghana is considering possible land evacuation options for its citizens residing in Qatar as security concerns continue to grow across the Middle East.
In a statement released on March 8 from Doha, the Ghanaian Embassy in Qatar disclosed that it is assessing practical arrangements that could enable nationals who wish to leave the country to depart through land routes. The move forms part of contingency plans aimed at safeguarding Ghanaians living in the Gulf state.
According to the mission, the step follows an earlier advisory issued on March 6 in response to the escalating regional tensions. Embassy officials explained that they are currently examining feasible road routes that could be used to facilitate the safe departure of citizens should the need arise.
The diplomatic mission also appealed to Ghanaian nationals who urgently wish to exit Qatar to formally notify the embassy so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Interested individuals were asked to communicate their intention through the embassy’s official email channel in order to be included in any evacuation planning.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following military strikes launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets. The two countries said the attacks were aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and restricting its ballistic missile capabilities.
Iran has denied pursuing nuclear weapons and responded with missile strikes targeting Israeli positions and U.S. military facilities across parts of the Gulf region, including locations in Qatar.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Red Crescent has submitted a petition to the International Criminal Court seeking an investigation into the military actions, alleging that the strikes caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential areas and healthcare facilities.
