The Federal Government has announced plans to set up 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling stations across the country within the next three years as part of its strategy to promote cleaner fuels and reduce dependence on petrol.

According to the Executive Director of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), Oluwole Adama, the initiative follows the conclusion of discussions between the MDGIF and Chinese equipment manufacturer, Endurance Group, on large-scale CNG infrastructure deployment.
Adama explained that the agreement includes the creation of a government-backed Special Purpose Vehicle known as the Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company, which will oversee the rollout of the refuelling stations and develop LCNG gas supply systems nationwide.
He noted that the project is expected to ease the pressure on existing CNG stations, expand access for motorists, and ensure uninterrupted supply as the government accelerates its transition to cleaner and more affordable energy options.

He added that the virtual pipeline network to be created under the SPV would support logistics, enhance distribution efficiency, and eliminate bottlenecks currently experienced in the CNG value chain.
“The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund concludes discussion with leading Chinese Manufacturer Endurance Group to make available 500 CNG refuelling stations across Nigeria for the next three years.”
“CAM InfraCo’s leasing and logistics strategy is designed to create a commercially viable and resilient national CNG refuelling network,” said Eric Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Endurance Group.
The initiative, which aligns with the Presidential CNG Initiative, is expected to boost access to gas-powered transportation, reduce reliance on imported fuels, and support the government’s broader energy transition and economic reform agenda.
