The Federal Government has concluded arrangements to evacuate 271 Nigerians from South Africa in the third phase of its special repatriation programme, with the flight scheduled to depart Johannesburg in the early hours of Friday, July 3.
According to an announcement by Nigerian diplomatic missions in South Africa, all approved passengers have successfully completed the required screening and have been cleared for the evacuation exercise.
The affected Nigerians have been directed to report to the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria by Thursday morning, where they will be transported together to O.R. Tambo International Airport using buses arranged by the government.
Officials explained that travelling on the designated buses is compulsory, as only those arriving through the coordinated arrangement will be granted access to the restricted airport processing area prepared for the evacuation. The measure is also intended to ensure the safety of passengers throughout the journey to the airport.
Passengers have also been instructed to bring their clearance certificates and every document presented during the verification and screening process to facilitate final travel formalities.
The missions further outlined baggage guidelines, allowing each adult and minor passenger two checked bags. For infants, only essential items such as a collapsible stroller, infant cot or infant car seat will be accepted.
The latest evacuation marks the third government-organised repatriation flight for Nigerians wishing to return home from South Africa. Authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad while encouraging those awaiting evacuation to remain patient and cooperate fully with officials.
The diplomatic missions also urged Nigerians residing in South Africa to obey local laws, avoid criminal activities and continue to uphold the country's reputation while the repatriation process continues.
