Religious leaders have been tasked with promoting environmental sanitation by integrating waste management messages into sermons, following the 5th Annual Ramadan Public Lecture organized by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). The event took place at LAWMA Headquarters in Ijora-Olopa.

LAWMA Managing Director Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin emphasized that linking sanitation to moral and religious teachings strengthens public understanding and compliance, contributing to improved health and productivity. He urged faith-based institutions to act as partners in environmental stewardship.
Sheikh AbdurRahman Olanrewaju Ahmad of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria reinforced that cleanliness and environmental responsibility are fundamental Islamic principles and civic duties. He recommended that religious institutions maintain waste bins and structured guides for sermons.
The Permanent Secretary of Environmental Services, Dr. Tajudeen Omobolaji Gaji, commended LAWMA for sustaining the initiative, noting that faith-based engagement plays a critical role in fostering behavioral change.

The Oba of Lagos, represented by Whitecap Chiefs, commended LAWMA’s efforts, with prayers offered for the Authority, the State, and the nation. The initiative reflects a growing partnership between religious institutions and government to advance civic responsibility and public health.
