Diaspora-based professional groups have boosted primary healthcare delivery in several Ogun State communities through targeted facility upgrades and staff support initiatives.

Leading the intervention is the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA), which implemented its Adopt-A-Primary Health Centre programme to improve access to quality healthcare at the grassroots. The initiative focuses on infrastructure, service efficiency, staff welfare and long-term sustainability.

Through the programme, NANNNA has supported 34 primary health centres across nine states in three geopolitical zones, making it one of the most extensive diaspora-led healthcare interventions currently operating in Nigeria.

Ogun State emerged as a key beneficiary, with five primary health centres upgraded. Two of the facilities, Imobido PHC and Iregun PHC, are located in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, where major structural and equipment improvements were carried out.

The Iperu facilities were transformed into modern one-storey health centres with new wards, offices, medical equipment and furniture, significantly expanding their capacity to serve local residents.

Additional projects were executed in other parts of the state. At Aiyepe PHC in Ijebu, a previously dilapidated structure was converted into staff accommodation, while new and fully equipped wards were constructed at Iwade-Oke PHC in Ijebu-Ode to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services.

The projects were carried out in collaboration with state health authorities, local governments and community leaders, and were officially inaugurated in December 2025. Community stakeholders have described the initiative as a strong example of impactful diaspora engagement and sustainable community development.
