A coalition of diaspora stakeholders and a civic advocacy group have unveiled plans for a large-scale rally in Cross River State, aimed at endorsing the leadership of Governor Bassey Otu and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong as political momentum builds toward the 2027 general elections.
The initiative, led by the Nigeria Diaspora Business Network (USA) in collaboration with Pillars of Equity, is scheduled to hold on April 4, 2026, in Calabar. Organisers say the event is designed to showcase public support for the current administration’s performance and encourage continuity in governance.
Speaking during a media briefing in Calabar, representatives of the coalition called for active collaboration with journalists to amplify awareness about the rally. They described the gathering as a strategic move to consolidate grassroots backing and highlight what they termed measurable progress in the state.
According to the group, their decision to mobilise supporters stems from perceived improvements across key sectors, including economic management, education, and security. They pointed to recent policy initiatives and institutional developments as indicators of progress under the current administration.
The coalition also referenced ongoing efforts to reposition major tourism assets in the state, noting that projects such as Tinapa and Obudu Ranch remain central to economic revitalisation plans. Security reforms were similarly cited, with organisers claiming enhanced stability across communities.
Leaders of Pillars of Equity explained that their advocacy is rooted in principles of fairness and balanced political representation. They maintained that their involvement in past political engagements was guided by a commitment to equity, particularly in power distribution within the state.
In addition to praising the governor, the group highlighted the legislative contributions of Senator Ekpenyong, pointing to his role in regional development initiatives and constituency-focused interventions, including education support and infrastructure advocacy.
They further acknowledged federal-level policies under President Bola Tinubu, noting that reforms such as the student loan programme and exchange rate adjustments are beginning to influence economic conditions at the state level.
Organisers say the upcoming rally will serve not only as a show of support but also as a platform to push for sustained performance, while informally setting the stage for political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
