Lagos’ premium social scene welcomed a new addition as the inaugural Diaspora Ball took place at EbonyLife Place, Victoria Island, attracting celebrities, entrepreneurs, creatives and influential socialites.
The high-profile event was hosted by Nigerian-American entrepreneur and healthcare IT consultant, Ayobami Magbagbeola, widely known as Ayo Entity. The initiative was designed to offer an alternative to the usual Detty December festivities by combining luxury entertainment with structured networking and cultural exchange.
Speaking at the event, Ayo Entity explained that the Diaspora Ball was created to move beyond surface-level socialising. He noted that the vision was to build a refined platform where culture, ambition and opportunity intersect, enabling meaningful collaborations and long-term impact among attendees from Nigeria and the diaspora.
The evening delivered a polished mix of entertainment and elegance. Guests were received with a live violin performance by Violinist Joe, setting a sophisticated tone for the night. Music was provided by a lineup of top DJs, including UK-based DJ Sierra, Lagos-based DJ FunkyBee and U.S.-based DJ Kobe, while comedian Edo Pikin anchored the event as host.
One of the highlights was the “Unlock the Mystery Box” activation, an interactive raffle open to all guests. The moment drew widespread applause when an usher emerged as one of the winners, reinforcing the organisers’ message of inclusivity and shared experience.
Fashion also played a major role, with cash prizes of ₦500,000 awarded to the Best Dressed Male and Female of the night. In addition, the Global Impact Awards honoured two individuals recognised for their notable contributions in their respective fields.
With its blend of style, entertainment and intentional connection, the maiden Diaspora Ball marked a bold entry into Lagos’ lifestyle calendar, positioning itself as a platform for both celebration and meaningful engagement.
