Dep. Gov. Hamzat Calls for Improved Data Integrity as Lagos Validates Human Capital Development Report

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, has called for improved data accuracy and comprehensive reporting to ensure that the state’s investments in human capital development are properly captured and recognised. He made the call during the validation meeting of the Lagos State Human Capital Development (HCD) 2.0 report held at Alausa, Ikeja.

Hamzat, who chairs the HCD 2.0 Core Working Group, noted that Lagos State has made significant progress across key sectors such as health, education, skills development, and social welfare. However, he observed that many impactful interventions remain underreported due to gaps in existing data collection frameworks.

He specifically identified the informal sector as a major blind spot, stressing that numerous workforce training and livelihood programmes, particularly those implemented through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), are not adequately reflected in official data despite their scale and impact.

The Deputy Governor explained that the validation exercise was designed to close these gaps and strengthen the credibility of the HCD 2.0 strategy. He urged members of the Core Working Group to ensure rigorous verification of all submitted data to support effective planning, implementation, and performance tracking.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, described the validation as a critical transition from strategy development to execution. She expressed confidence that the refined HCD 2.0 report would guide evidence-based policymaking and translate Lagos State’s development ambitions into tangible improvements in residents’ quality of life.
